The Hogar Collection is most pleased to announce, If a lion could speak, we could not understand him, by New York based artist Dave Choi. In his debut solo exhibition Choi will present masterfully idiosyncratic sculptures and videos that simply put, provoke our imagination and explore a world of curious imagination. Like an alchemical experiment his work utilizes and amalgamates materials that primarily consist of everyday and throwaway objects such as dirt, glass, money, cigarette butts, plastic, colored hot glue, taxidermy, wood and etc. into a metamorphosed and rarified state. Exploiting and reconfiguring the materials through a laborious process, the works transform into magical and mysterious oddities that delve out of our psyche and into a unimagined realm of fantastical surrealism that mysteriously reflect ideas of complexly simple postulates and playful meditations.

Dave Choi was born in 1968 in Seoul Korea and lives in works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Rutgers University, was a resident at the Vermont Studio Center and The Glasgow School of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited and performed in recent years at such venues as The Whitney Museum of Fine Arts (2008 Whitney Biennial with ¡APESHIT!), Gavin Brown's Enterprise, Rare Gallery, The Hogar Collection, Rutgers University MGSA Art Gallery and Aqua Art Fair Miami among others.
